Trout fishing is closed at Quantico now, so file this one for next seaso
Breckenridge Reservoir, at the Quantico Marine Corps Base, continues to be one of my favorite small lakes close to home. I was in trouble with the Basswife because I had not taken her fishing as much as she wanted to go last year. Therefore, on the first good day where there was the possibility of
If you want to fish here, go early in the season before the lily pads proliferate.

With the warm weather this weekend, you just had to FISH! With the project list growing, I had to pacify the Basswife by doing some stuff in the morning but my son came down and rescued me. We left the house at around 1 PM and headed south for Quantico for a quick couple of

The Basswife and I took a quick trip down to Smith again. This time, we worked the West Side of the lake. This sucker is deep! It topped 85′ on the PiranhaMAX 30 as we worked up from the lower right to the top of the lake. Sadly, not much action. We were there in late afternoon

Great day on the West Fork of Smith Lake near Aquia. Absolutely pleasant Saturday in May – air temp around 73 degrees and bright sun. We hit the lake at around noon, launching from the Aquia side of the lake as shown on the map. Crisis! I forgot to bring the paddles for the canoe.
Smith Lake is the water reservoir for Stafford County. It borders Quantico and requires a Quantico fishing permit. We had never been there and wanted to check it out – conclusion – it’s a sweet lake! Once you find the lake, there are two boat launches – one corresponding to each finger of the lake.
My wife and I hit Breckenridge down at the Quantico Marine Corps Base again this weekend (April 3). Breckenridge is a great spot for those of us who can only afford a simple canoe or Jon boat – it’s electric motors only and the “boat ramp” is a gravel dip that a bulldozer must have
Quantico sports a trout stream, but is it worth messing with?
