Trout Hike – Patuxent River (Hipsleys Mill – Upstream)
Nice, close, easy to get to…. but too cold for any action
Nice, close, easy to get to…. but too cold for any action
A quick trip to break loose of the winter found me on the Patuxent River near Unity, MD
River looks pretty dull up here. We did not have time to hike very far south on the road to Kendall – it may pick up down there.
The southern section of Town Creek is exceptionally easy to access and could be a great place to learn to fly fish
The northern section of the Town Creek delayed harvest area proves to be a nice stretch of water – even on a very cold fall day.
We were in the hunt for the elephants that were stocked here last month – 65 six pounders covertly inserted into the river at Swallow Falls
For those who are willing to hump it in, it looks like good pocket water about a mile south from the parking lot on an otherwise unproductive section of the river
Water was low the day we were there. This is a tough river to walk. Plenty of pools and good smallie action in spite of the water level
If you can only go here on the weekend, be prepared for a tragic disappointment. This place is very heavily pressured.
Looks dead here – promising upstream
Big Falls Road looks like a nice access point – but it is not as scenic as the Prettyboy section
No trail, walk in the river – but might be pressured
You have to dodge plenty of tubers to fish this wild trout section
Checked out the trophy water on the Savage
