Bass – Best Buy Lake Fishing (VA – Woodbridge)

Periodically, I go over to the Best Buy near Potomac Mills. I remember when it was built years ago, they created a holding pond for water runoff. I never really gave it much thought until I fished the small water that I discussed in this post. As I drove by that containment pond in early November, I decided to wander down and give it a shot.

As you can see from the pictures below, this is actually a decent sized lake with the only detractor being that you get a nice view of a chain restaurant and, of course Best Buy, as you fish the banks. Since this was spur of the moment, I didn’t have the best gear with me — I only had my collapsible spinning rod and a few spinners that were rattling around in the back of the truck. I parked next to Best Buy and walked down to the shore, surprised to see that I was not the first person to do this. There were scattered bait boxes and lure containers in various locations. Ignoring the fact of the trash, I hoped it portended that this water might hold fish or two.

I tied on a gold Panther Martin spinner and began to fish out into the center of the lake. When that was not productive, I moved north to the shallower area and began to fish there. After a few casts, I caught the small bass shown in the picture below. I was out of time but the fact that I caught that fish confirms that he has mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters all living in this lake as well. Since it has been around for over 10 years, I imagine that the bass population is well established.

Happy that I had discovered a lake close to home, I walked back up to the truck and called it a day.

Getting There: Go to the Best Buy that is off of the Prince William Parkway.  The lake is in the back.

Best Buy Lake Fishing Secrets Revealed?  Given the amount of fishing related trash, no.  But, this is not a documented body of water on the VDGIF site.

And that other small lake in the picture above?  Yes, I fished it as well.  It is actually a pond dedicated to the memory of a hard core fisherman named Gary Brisbois – fishing encouraged.
